Born in Elmhurst Illinois in 1954, Dean Wellman obtained his law degree from the University of Kentucky in 1980 and began his practice with law firm of Martin, Ockerman & Brabant in Lexington. In 1995, he and two of his partners formed the firm of Piper, Wellman & Bowers. In 2008, he joined Mark Nichols in establishing Wellman & Nichols, PLLC. Mr. Wellman has been recognized in Woodward and White's, Best Lawyers in America. He was a co-author for the chapter on Hospital liability in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Editions of Kentucky Health Law published by UK Office of Continuing Legal Education and has been a speaker for a number of seminars related to the the topic of nursing and hospital liability. Mr. Wellman is a current member and former president of the Kentucky Academy of Hospital Attorneys. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating, reflecting exemplary reputation in the legal community.
